Constitutional Referendum 2016

The Ka:'yu:'k't'h'/Che:k'tles7et'h' Legislature, in accordance with Constitution and the Referendum Act, has called a referendum on April 19th, 2016 of Ka:'yu:'k't'h'/Che:k'tles7et'h' eligible voters to consider further amendments to the Constitution. There are three (3) separate Referendum Questions.

These proposed amendments are available for your review at www.kcfn-referendum.ca or contact Ron Frank or Frank Dragon at the KCFN Administrative Offices directly at 250 332-5259.

Electronic Voting is available for 3 days...you will require an email, your Harvest Number (or Treaty Number), a PIN (provided by the Electoral Officer) and your Date of Birth.

The Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che:k’tles7et’h’ government has proposed amendments to Chapter 9 of the Constitution that, if approved, would allow either the Ka:’yu:’k’t’h Tyee Ha’wilth or the Che:k’tles7et’h’ Tyee Ha’wilth to initiate a process for Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che:k’tles7et’h’ First Nations to divide into separate nations in accordance with a mutual independence law enacted by the Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che:k’tles7et’h’ Legislature. These proposed amendments are set out in Chapter 9 of the draft Constitution provided to you as part of the information package for this referendum, with text to be added to Chapter 9 of the Constitution underlined and in blue and text to be deleted appearing in the right hand column (the “Chapter 9 Amendments”) Do you approve the Chapter 9 Amendments to the Constitution?

The Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che:k’tles7et’h’ government has proposed amendments to Chapter 8 of the Constitution that, if approved, would allow future amendments to the Constitution to be determined by the eligible Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che:k’tles7et’h’ citizens who actually vote, rather than being determined by Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che:k’tles7et’h’ citizens who are eligible to vote, including those who actually do not vote and they are counted as a no vote. These proposed amendments are set out in Chapter 8 of the draft Constitution provided to you as part of the information package for this referendum, with text to be added to Chapter 8 of the Constitution underlined and in blue and text to be deleted appearing in the right hand column (the “Chapter 8 Amendments”).
